In Memoiam

Sister Antona Ebo, a Franciscan Sister of Mary, died Saturday, November 11, at the Sarah Community in Bridgeton, Missouri. She was born Elizabeth Louise Ebo on April 10, 1924 in Bloomington, Illinois. Her courageous words during the March 10, 1965, march in Selma, Ala., became a rallying cry for many in the Civil Rights movement. In the Diocese of Jackson, she was chaplain at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson from 1981-87.
A funeral Mass was celebrated November 20 at St. Alphonsus Liguori “Rock” Church, in north St. Louis. In lieu of flowers, donations can go to Cardinal Ritter High School, the Archdiocese of St. Louis Peace and Justice Commission, St. Matthew Church, St. Nicholas Church, or St. Alphonsus Liguori (Rock) Church.

The sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings beginning September 12th with the first two weeks being a chance to tour the church and meet the team. Then, the next seven Tuesdays will be dedicated to the Discovering Christ Series which includes a meal, prayer and song, a video teaching, and small group discussion. JUBILEES
DUBUQUE, Iowa. Two Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) who served in the Diocese of Jackson will celebrate diamond jubilees in the Mount Carmel Motherhouse Chapel in Dubuque, Iowa, on Sept. 10, with a liturgy of thanksgiving. They entered the BVM congregation on Sept. 8, 1947. They professed first vows on March 19, 1950, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1955.

Sister Mary Paul Francis Bailey

Sister Mary Paul Francis Bailey, BVM (Luellen) was born in Springfield, Ill. Sister taught at Immaculate Conception ES/HS in Clarksdale, Miss. Sister is retired and lives at Mount Carmel, Dubuque.

Sister Jean Granville, BVM (Suzette) was born in St. Louis. She was principal at Holy Ghost School in Jackson. Sister is retired and lives at Mount Carmel, Dubuque.

IN MEMORIAM:
Brother Terry ORourkeJames M. “Brother Terry” O’Rourke, 82, died March 10 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Brother Terry was a Glenmary Home Missioner for 58 years. He served in the Diocese of Jackson at Aberdeen St. Francis of Assisi. During that assignment, Brother Terry assisted in training service dogs to help the disabled.
He took senior status in 2004 but remained active. In 1996, Brother Terry started a local food pantry in Aberdeen. He continued to manage the pantry until 2010. He moved to the Glenmary residence in Cincinnati in 2016.
Burial was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials may be made to Glenmary Home Missioners, P.O. Box 465618, Cincinnati, OH 45246-5618.

 

JUBILEE CELEBRATED
SINSINAWA, Wis.—Sister Geraldine Hoye, OP, will celebrate her 60th jubilee in June. Her parish is St. Stephen, Chicago. A Mass will be held in Queen of the Rosary HoyeGeraldineChapel at Sinsinawa Mound on Sunday, June 4, for her and 20 other Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters celebrating 60 years.
Sister Hoye’s ministry has been dedicated to teaching, educational administration, pastoral ministry and faith formation. For many years, she was involved in education, serving as teacher and principal.
In the Diocese of Jackson, she served as pastoral minister at Tupelo St. James Parish from 1992-1999. She also served in Wisconsin, Kentucky, Illinois, Louisiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Sister Hoye is currently living in community at the motherhouse, Sinsinawa. Those who would like to honor Sister Hoye on her jubilee can visit the Sinsinawa Dominicans’ website at www.sinsinawa.org/jubilarians.
