Saltillo Mission takes applications

       JACKSON — The Saltillo Mission Experience is a one-week immersion retreat experience for youth with adult chaperones. This planned retreat incorporates hands-on service opportunities, prayer and liturgy experiences, and community-building efforts both before the actual trip and while in Mexico.
       Goals of the experience include:

• building a community of faith among the youth and adults within your parish or diocesan-wide group through prayer, reflection, catechesis, work and sharing.
• preparing each participant with a basic understanding of the faith, culture and history of the people of Mexico as well as the history of the diocesan mission in Saltillo.
• bringing about an awareness of the universal church and the responsibilities we have to our neighbors and their welfare as God’s children.
• To invoke an awareness of our own American culture with its focus on individualism, consumerism and materialism in contrast to the church teachings on working for the common good, basic human dignity and the human rights of the individual and solidarity as it pertains to charity and service towards our fellow man.
• If you know of a high school student in your parish who may be interested in being part of the Diocese of Jackson’s Saltillo Mission Experience, contact your parish youth leader for an application form.
