Mass, brunch
      BATESVILLE — On Sunday, May 4, St. Mary Parish will begin the 10:30 a.m. Mass outside around the statue of Mary. The youth will participate in the May crowning procession at the beginning of Mass. A brunch will follow.
Council 13502 of the Knights of Columbus is planning a yard sale in June.


Caps, T-shirts
      CAMDEN — In anticipation of its homecoming weekend celebration, May 30-June 1, Sacred Heart Parish will sell caps (in limited quantity) for $15 and T-shirts. Costs of T-shirts vary depending on size, from $8 - $13 each. Those planning to order are asked to fill out a form indicating number and sizes of shirts so enough of the correct sizes will be ordered.
      The parish Men’s Group will hold its quarterly breakfast meeting Saturday, May 3, at 8 a.m. in the family center. All men of the parish are encouraged to attend as plans are being made for the candy sale and the homecoming weekend. For information contact Bobby McMurtry.


Sister Christine Moix dies
      CHATAWA — Sister Christine Moix, SSND, died April 26. Morning prayers and visitation were to be held Thursday, May 1, at St. Teresa Church followed by a eucharistic celebration at 10:30 a.m.
      In the Diocese of Jackson, Sister Moix taught at Jackson St. Therese School and at Brookhaven St. Francis of Assisi School. She taught also in Missouri, Louisiana and Texas. In the late 1970s she served her community in Rome.
      Sister Moix is survived by her sister, Dorothy Lockwood of El Dorado, Ark., and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will take place in the Chatawa Cemetery.


International food fest
      COLUMBUS — Annunciation Parish will hold an international food fest Sunday, May 18, from 5 p.m. until dark. Beverages will be provided. Parishioners are asked to sign-up after all Masses Sunday, May 4.
      The parish apostle groups, St. Mathias, St. Matthew, St. Jude and St. James/Alpheus will celebrate “Cinco de Mayo” with a covered dish luncheon Sunday, May 4, after the 10:30 a.m. Mass in the activities center. Participants are asked to bring either a main dish, salad, or dessert with a Mexican flavor.


New Mass on Sundays
      GLUCKSTADT — Beginning Sunday, May 4, St. Joseph Parish will celebrate a Mass at 5 p.m.
      On Sunday, May 18, the parish will recognize its graduating seniors at the 8:15 a.m. Mass and will honor them with a reception afterwards. Parents of graduating seniors from high school or college are asked to notify the office so students can be invited personally.
      Beef O’Brady will give the parish 10 percent of all sales made from 4 - 8 p.m. on Mondays, May 5 and 12. Proceeds will go toward the youth’s summer trip.



Eucharistic adoration
      GREENWOOD — Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish holds eucharistic adoration on Wednesdays from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. The parish would like to have at least two people in the church at all times during adoration to help them feel more comfortable and secure.

Threshold Bible study
      FLOWOOD —The Wisdom Seekers of St. Paul Parish are holding a Threshold Bible study called “The Sacred Heart of Jesus.” The group meets on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in the adult lounge of the Family Life Center. The cost of the book is $13. To join call Alice Geoghegan, 601-992-1874.

      St. Paul Women’s Guild is looking for volunteers to help with the First Communion reception on Saturday, May 3, at the 5:30 p.m. Mass and the confirmation reception on Tuesday, May 6, at 7 p.m. Sign-up sheets are on the back counter of the church.


May crowning
      GRENADA — St. Peter Parish will have a special May crowning ceremony Sunday, May 4, at 6 p.m.
      Council 10443 of the Knights of Columbus and the CYO will hold a pulled pork barbecue dinner fund-raiser Friday, May 2, from 5 - 7 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Plates are $5 each.


Church dedication
      HERNANDO — The dedication of the new church building of Holy Spirit Parish is planned for Saturday, May 17, at 7 p.m. (change of time).
Choir practice for the church dedication ceremony will continue on Sunday, May 4, from noon - 2 p.m. and Wednesday, May 14, at 7 p.m.


Drawdown winners
      JACKSON — Father Kevin Slattery, diocesan judicial vicar, Evelin Shaker and Dr. Michael Reddix were the winners of the $10,000 drawdown on April 26 that will benefit Sister Thea Bowman School and Christ the King Parish.
      Proceeds will go toward the construction of a multi-purpose building to be shared by the school and the parish.


Hunger Banquet
      JACKSON — St. Richard Parish annual Hunger Banquet fund-raiser will be held Thursday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. in Foley Hall. Parishioners are reminded to bring an item from their summer travel for the silent auction.
      Council 848 of the Knights of Columbus will hold a pancake sale Sunday, May 4, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. in Foley Hall.


St. Francis May crowning
      MADISON — All St. Francis of Assisi parishioners are invited to the May crowning Sunday, May 4, at 10 a.m. in the courtyard. Children may bring a fresh flower for Mary.
      Donations of the following items are being collected for the diocesan Saltillo Mission in Mexico: adult and children vitamins, pain relieves, Pepto Bismol tablets, band-aids, travel size toiletries, small size toys, crayons and coloring books, and monetary donations. Items can be dropped off in the basket in the back of the church or in the Family Life Center.


Kepha-Walk-A-Thon
      McCOMB — St. Alphonsus youth Matthew and Patrick Artigues will participate in the 10-mile Kepha-Walk-A-Thon Saturday, May 3, to raise funds for various charities.
Parishioners are encouraged to sponsor the youth and include prayer needs (even if a donation is not given). Checks can be addressed to Kepha and sent to: 900 Hickory Ave., McComb, MS 39648.
      The Meet, Mingle and Munch Women luncheon will be held Wednesday, May 7, at 11:30 a.m. in the parish center.


Crawfish boil
      MERIDIAN — St. Patrick and St. Joseph parishes senior CYO is selling tickets for a crawfish boil to be held in May. All tickets will be pre-sold for $15 each and include three pounds of crawfish, corn on the cob and boiled potatoes. Proceeds will go toward expenses of the youth mission trip to Saltillo, Mexico.


Spiritual Gospel
      NATCHEZ — A spiritual and gospel extravaganza will be presented by Alcorn State University at St. Mary Basilica Sunday, May 4, at 6 p.m.
      Assumption Parish will hold a May crowning on Sunday, May 4, before the 8:30 a.m. Mass.
      At St. Mary Basilica, the crowning will be held Thursday, May 15, during the 8 a.m. farewell Mass for high school seniors.
      St. Mary Basilica’s monthly Tuesday lunch brunch will be held May 6 at 12:05 p.m. in St. Theresa Hall. The program will be on how to pray the Rosary for Life. Participants will pray one decade of the rosary. A limited number of rosaries and audio CDs will be distributed free of charge.


Feast of Families
      SOUTHAVEN — All Christ the King Parish women are invited to Our Ladies Group meeting Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. A potluck luncheon will follow. Those not able to make the monthly meetings are encouraged to register their e-mail or phone number with the secretary, 662-781-0919.
      All parishioners (men and women) are invited to attend the “GeeGees” (God’s Gluers Arts & Crafters) Tuesday meetings at 6:30 p.m. Participants are working on crafts that will be sold at the parish’s Fall Festival. For information call 662-349-2882 or 662-470-4894.
      The arts and crafts Tuesday morning group was recently canceled for lack of participation.


Rock-the-Hill concert
      TUPELO — St. James Parish will hold its annual Rock-the-Hill concert featuring the new Adult Contemporary Praise and Worship Band Sunday, May 4, beginning at 5 p.m. with a dinner.
      Happy Hearts anointing Mass and closing luncheon is set for Thursday, May 8, after the 12:10 p.m. Mass. Participants are asked to wear their favorite shoes and share their stories.

Sister Maria Coon dies
      LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Sister Maria Coon, 94, a Sister of Charity of Nazareth (SCN), died March 19 at Nazareth Home.
      In the Diocese of Jackson, Sister Coon served from 1976-1996 as pastoral minister and administrator in Bruce, Fayette, Gloster, and Centreville.
      Last year Sister Coon published a book, “Her Spirit Lives,” on the life of Catherine Spalding, foundress of the SCNs. Survivors include a sister, Mary O’Kelley Toombs of Fairburn, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Coon, of Spring, Texas; and several nieces and cousins.
      A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 25. Burial took place in the Nazareth Cemetery.


Spring Fest in Batesville
      BATESVILLE — St. Mary Parish will have a 12-hour Eucharistic adoration Friday, May 2, from 6 a.m. - 5:45 p.m. followed by Mass at 6 p.m.
      The May procession will be at the beginning of the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, May 4.
      Parishioners will work at the funnel cake booth at the Spring Fest on the Square Friday and Saturday, May 16-17. Organizers of the funnel cake booth are looking for donations of canned drinks or monetary donations to buy cans. For information contact Jimmy Griffin.

      BOONEVILLE — St. Francis of Assisi Parish will have a garage sale Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.


Hispanic health fair
      CANTON — The Madison County Hispanic Ministry will hold a health fair for Hispanics Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Carmichel Clinic in Canton. Save-A-Life walkathon
      CLEVELAND — Anyone interested in participating, as an individual or in a group, in the Save-A-Life walkathon on Saturday, May 17, should contact Our Lady of Victories Parish office, 662-846-6273, or savalife@cableone.net. Information packets are on the tables in the rear of the sanctuary.
      Donations to St. Gabriel Mercy Center in Mound Bayou can be placed in the large wooden boxes in the entryway of the church. Clothes or small items should be placed in bags. For larger items, call the center, 662-741-3255.


Mexican food sale
      CORINTH — There will be a sale of authentic Mexican food at St. James Parish Friday, April 25, from 4 - 8 p.m. Free samples will be given before purchase of tamales, tacos, chicken salad, salbutes and desserts.
      Proceeds will go toward purchases of flowers for Mother’s Day, to buy costumes for the stations and Guadalupe celebrations, for AMEN food pantry, and KC’s Christmas Fund for the Children’s Emergency Shelter.
      St. James Parish and the Immigration Clinic of Catholic Charities are sponsoring individual immigration consultations Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the parish. The consultation fee is $20.

Memory luminarias
      GREENVILLE — Anyone interested in buying a luminary to honor someone who has had cancer or in memory of someone who has passed away, can contact St. Joseph parishioners Patsy Prewitt, Sandra Roth-Roffy, or Janette Garner.
      Luminarias are $10 each and will be lit at the Relay for Life service on Friday, May 9, at 6 p.m. at the local YMCA.


Sail-A-Bration raffle
      GREENVILLE — A Sail-A-Bration raffle to benefit Catholic schools will take place on Pentecost Sunday, May 11, at noon on the grounds of St. Joseph School. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at St. Joseph Parish or school offices. Prizes are a four-day cruise to Cozumel, a 20-inch LCD television and free tuition for a month (or $250 cash).

      “Thriller,” a 3-5 minute skit performed by the youth at the youth convention in January, will be performed Sunday, April 27, after the 9 a.m. Mass at Christ the King Parish and after the 11 a.m. at St. Mary Parish.

KC Tournament
      SOUTHAVEN — The second annual Knights of Columbus Council 7120 golf tournament is scheduled for Sunday, May 18, at 1 p.m. at Wedgewood Golfers’ Club in Olive Branch. Proceeds will benefit area agencies such as DeSoto Industries, DeSoto County Special Olympics, the Samaritans and council programs at Christ the King Parish.
      Range balls, golf, cart, two mulligans, a red tee, a hand toss from off the green, two drink tickets and dinner catered by Outback Steakhouse for two are included in the $125 entry fee. Pray rosary in May
