The Joy of Newness
Recently our worshipping community entered our new church home for the first eucharistic celebration. Great enthusiasm and anticipation was heard from all present as we admired the new space!
We had passed from the old to the new and this community of fellow believers once again gathered together around the Lord’s table. Our celebration of Eucharist, taken from the Greek word “to give thanks,” was about to begin.
The new building had been swept and dusted as each of us are through the sacrament of reconciliation. Sweeping away sinfulness and preparing myself, I become the new vessel to receive Christ’s graces. I am new again.
I was reminded this new beginning, this process of building anew, still encompassing ages old traditions, reflects receiving the Body of Christ. Each time I say “amen” I bring Christ into my heart and soul as I consume the Body and Blood.
I have that new beginning. Christ’s unconditional love and sacrifice for all unites me with him in the new Passover. I become one with him and with my fellow parishioners. We share the one Christ.
Heavenly Father, let me celebrate the graces my union with Christ brings to me in the sacrament of the Eucharist and may I continue to be “new wine” in the new wineskin as I worship you in the new church home. Amen
