Guadalupe celebrations planned around diocese

        JACKSON – It’s already a tradition in the Diocese of Jackson, the United States and around the Americas. Every year around the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which is observed on Dec. 12, people plan activities to honor her.
The following parishes will celebrate her feast with novenas, mañanitas, Masses, dances and rosaries:

Canton Sacred Heart
A novena Dec. 2-10 at 7 p.m. in different Hispanic homes.
On Saturday, Dec. 10, there will be confession in Spanish from 1 – 4 p.m.
On Monday, Dec. 12, there will be mañanitas at 5 a.m. in the church. The procession will begin at noon around the church followed by Mass and a party with music and dances in the parish center.
The Mass for the feast of the Immaculate Conception will be Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. in trailer #115.
Posadas will be held Dec. 16-24 at 7 p.m. in different homes and in the church. The last posada will be with Mass and songs.

Forest/Morton
St. Michael Parish and St. Martin de Porres Center will celebrate a Mass honoring St. Juan Diego Friday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. in both places.
On Saturday, Dec. 10, there will be mañanitas and a rosary at 10 p.m. in both communities.
On Gaudette Sunday, Dec. 11, Mass will be celebrated at noon in the Crudup Hall in Forest followed by a party.
In Morton, on Thursday, Dec. 8, the Hispanic community will celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Conception at 8 p.m. with a “Griteria,” (a celebration native to the Nicaraguan people which includes praises and music.)

Greenville Sacred Heart
Mass will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. A reception will follow.

Greenwood St. Francis
Hispanic parishioners will gather on Elzy Avenue at 11 a.m. for the procession which will begin at 11:30 a.m. heading to St. Francis Church for Mass. A potluck lunch and party will follow.
At 5 p.m. there will be a piñata for the children followed by a rosary.
Mañanitas will begin at midnight Monday, Dec. 12. Mass will be celebrated at 6 p.m.

Indianola Immaculate Conception
Parishioners will begin the celebration with a procession at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, followed by Mass at 4 p.m. A reception will be held at “Tienda Mexicana.”

Jackson
St. Peter, St. Mary

Both communities will join for the celebration this year beginning with a procession at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary Parish.
Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church at 3:30 p.m. followed by a dinner.
At 6:30 p.m. participants will gather for mañanitas in the church.
Natchez Assumption
The feast will be celebrated Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. A festival will follow in Tuite Hall.

New Albany St. Francis
The celebration will be observed Monday, Dec. 12, beginning with a rosary at 4:30 a.m. followed by mañanitas and a breakfast at 6 a.m.
The procession will begin at 5 p.m. in the New Albany Museum heading to St. Francis Church for the 6 p.m. Mass.
A dinner and party will be held in the parish center.

Pearl St. Jude
On Saturday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. there will be a procession around the church neighborhood praying the rosary and singing. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. followed by a potluck lunch.

Senatobia St. Gregory
Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, followed by dinner.

Southaven Christ the King
On Monday, Dec. 12, there will be mañanitas at 5:30 a.m. followed by breakfast.
Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. with folkloric dances and a mariachi. A dinner will follow.
