Continuing formation plans workshop
JACKSON – The Diocesan Continuing Formation Committee will sponsor a two-day workshop Sept. 29-30, at the St. Dominic Centre, located on the I-55 Frontage Road north of Lakeland Drive.
The first component of the workshop, entitled “Liturgical Leadership in a Time of Change,” will feature a keynote talk by Bishop Gerald Kicanas, Bishop of Tucson and vice president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). Bishop Kicanas’ talk will center on preparation for the upcoming release of the new English translation of the Mass.
This workshop, which begins with registration at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, will serve as the first in a series of events and resources for parishes on the new translation. A tentative diocesan implementation schedule along with resources will be introduced at the workshop.
After Bishop Kicanas’ talk, participants will have time for questions and answers with the bishop. Evening Prayer for the Feast of the Archangels will follow and then dinner. Following dinner, participants will have time to learn more about the diocesan plans and resources for implementation and offer feedback. The evening will conclude with Night Prayer.
The second component of the two-day workshop, “Mission and Ministry in Mississippi – Facing the Future,” will begin with Morning Prayer of St. Jerome at 8:45 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 30. The diocesan Mission and Ministry Team will present realities facing the Jackson diocese in terms of parish ministry and vocations. The workshop will conclude at 12:30 p.m.
The workshop is designed for pastors, associates, lay ecclesial ministers and pastoral ministers. Cost of the two-day workshop is $50. A brochure with registration form, housing information and schedule has been mailed to parishes and missions. It is also available on the diocese’s website.
