Two students receive scholarships
VICKSBURG — Two St. Aloysius School, Class of 2010 graduates, Bonita Barnes and Dayton Gamble, recently received the Christopher L. Robinson/Stacy Coleman Memorial Scholarship from the U.S. Special Forces Association Chapter 79.
The scholarship has three winners throughout the state each year. SFC Christopher Robinson and Col. Stacy Coleman were residents of Brandon and members of the 2/20th Special Forces Battalion.
Robinson was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2006 and Coleman was accidentally killed upon his return home from Afghanistan.
A scholarship was founded in their memory and this year two of the three recipients were from St. Aloysius School.
Applicants wrote an essay on the topic “What Patriotism Means to Me.” Barnes received a $1,000 scholarship and Dayton Gamble received a $750 scholarship.
