Immaculate Conception celebrates 125 years
RAYMOND — Immaculate Conception Mission will celebrate its 125th anniversary Saturday, May 1, with a Mass at 5:30 p.m. followed by a reception on the church grounds.
Bishop Joseph Latino will be the main celebrant; concelebrants include Bishop William Houck, Father Tom McGing, pastor of Clinton Holy Savior Parish and Immaculate Conception, Father Richard Chiles, priest-in-charge of Immaculate Conception, and other diocesan priests.
The church building, 25 by 40 foot, was dedicated on Sept. 6, 1885 and since then has undergone two major renovations, one in 1984 and another in 1997.
According to the mission history, in 1890 parishioners donated gold and silver objects to be melted down and included in the brass church bell cast by McSane Foundry in Baltimore.
