Deepen journey with Lord, attend
Why Catholic? retreat

JACKSON — Hungry for more than food? If you want to deepen your journey with the Lord attend a Why Catholic? retreat this week.
“The Eucharist: Bread for the Journey” is the theme of Why Catholic? retreats that were to begin Thursday, April 15, in Deanery I. This first gathering was to be held in English and Spanish at St. Richard Parish, Jackson.
The retreats will continue as follows:
Deanery VI — Friday, April 16, St. Patrick, Meridian, English, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.; St. Michael, Forest, Spanish, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
     Deanery V — Saturday, April 17, St. James, Tupelo, English and Spanish, 2 - 4 p.m.
Deanery III & IV — Sunday, April 18, English and Spanish, 3 - 5 p.m., St. Francis School, Greenwood.
     Deanery II — Monday, April 19, English, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., St. Francis of Assisi, Brookhaven; Spanish, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., St. Martin, Hazlehurst.
The retreats are open to everyone whether they participate in Why Catholic? programs in their parish or not.
The retreats will offer a deeper look at the Eucharist, as part of the six sessions which are focusing on the Catholic faith in sacramental liturgy.
Why Catholic? is a program developed by Renew Inc. for evangelization and adult faith formation in parishes.
It explores Catholic teaching based on the four pillars of the “Catechism of the Catholic Church” — profession of faith, sacraments of faith, the life of faith, and Christian prayer and Scripture.
The four-year process was designed as a means to foster the goals of “Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us,” the 1999 U.S. bishops pastoral letter on adult faith formation.
Nearly 80 parishes in the Diocese of Jackson have been participating in the Why Catholic? process since the fall of 2008.
