Regional conference set for charismatics
NEW ORLEANS — The annual Southern Regional Conference of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCRO) is scheduled for March 19-21, at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner. Conference speakers include Father Richard McAlear, OMI, known worldwide for his healing ministry and work with priests; Johnnette Benkovic, founder and president of Living His Life Abundantly and Women of Grace with outreaches on radio and television; Deacon Alex Jones, a former Pentecostal minister who came into the Catholic Church with 54 members of his congregation.
Father McAlear, Dr. William Mitchell and Patti Mansfield will conduct a Day of Renewal for priests, deacons and major seminarians Friday, March 19, from 10 a.m. - noon at the Pontchartrain Center, Room Rivertown 1. There is no charge but registration is requested.
Everyone is welcome to register for a pre-conference teaching session on Friday, March 19, starting at 1 p.m. with talks by Father McAlear and Johnny Bertucci. A Mass of Intercession with Father Paul Yi, associate pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Baton Rouge, will conclude this session.
A Youth Workshop for teenagers and young adults will be held Friday, March 19, at 7 p.m. with a Festival of Praise led by Colin MacIver. It will continue Saturday, March 20, beginning with 9 a.m. Mass with Archbishop Gregory Aymond and continuing to 10 p.m.
Speakers will include Brother Guy Lafranz Bourgeois, CFR, and members of the Sanctifire and CCRO Youth Ministries. Youth not covered by a family registration may attend for $15. Concessions are available.
There will be a session in Spanish with Father McAlear and Father Lance Campo from 2 - 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 20. Father McAlear will conduct a Eucharistic Healing Service from 9 - 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 21.
On Sunday Immaculée Ilibagiza, New York Times best-selling author of “Left to Tell,” will share her story of finding God in the midst of the Rwandan genocide in which she lost many family members.
Father McAlear will celebrate the Sunday Mass at 11 a.m.
Seating is limited and early registration is encouraged. Discounts are available for pre-registration.
No preregistration is needed for single sessions. All priests, religious brothers and sisters, deacons and their families are invited to attend the conference at no charge, but pre-registration is requested. The fee schedule is as follows: individual adult $40; married couple $60; family (same household) $70; single session $15; youth workshop $15; all day Saturday $30.
Accreditation is available through the Office of Religious Education, Archdiocese of New Orleans for educators attending the conference. Registration online is encouraged.
