Religion teachers hear update
JACKSON – A workshop for Catholic school religion teachers will be held Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at St. Richard School, from 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
High school teachers will hear a presentation about “Adolescent Catechesis and the New Documents on Religion Curriculum” from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) by Tom East from the Center for Ministry Development in Gig Harbor, Wash.
Grade school teachers will learn about the “7 Principles of Catholic Social Teaching” from Dr. John Switzer from Spring Hill College in Mobile.
Elementary religion teachers who are not certified catechists will choose from the following presentations:
— The Creed by Anita Hoseley, MTS, Vicksburg St. Michael Parish.
— Sacraments by Alice Hughes, MRE, director of the diocesan Office of Faith Formation.
— Scripture by Mary Louise Jones, MA, Jackson St. Richard Parish.
— Prayer by Mary Flessner, MTS, Jackson St. Peter Parish.
— Morality by Father Kevin Slattery, JCL, pastor of Sacred Heart and Holy Child Jesus parishes, Canton, who is also adjutant judicial vicar, and sacramental minister of St. Joseph Parish, Gluckstadt.
