Some of his assignments included being assistant pastor of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) Parish, Biloxi, and of Sacred Heart Parish, Pascagoula. He was pastor of St. Mary Parish, Woolmarket, and of St. John and St. Louis parishes in Biloxi and of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Gulfport.
He had also served as diocesan scout chaplain, as vice-chancellor and notary of the diocesan tribunal, and as a member of many boards and committees within the structure of the Diocese of Biloxi. He was named a monsignor, a papal honor, in 1988.
Msgr. Murray is survived by his sister Anne Donnelly, her husband Eamonn, three nephews and friends.
A memorial Mass was celebrated for Msgr. Murray Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. at Nativity BVM Cathedral in Biloxi.
