New St. Joseph School Fine Arts Complex opens doors
By Julia Williams
MADISON – St. Joseph School proudly opened its newly
constructed Fine Arts Complex this school year. This 29,590 square foot facility provides state-of-the-art equipment for music and the arts. The auditorium is handicap accessible, has 514 padded stadium seats, a large cinema-size drop-down screen and an orchestra pit. The building itself overlooks a small lake on the campus.
Within the complex, each classroom is equipped to meet specific disciplines. The choral music room and band hall have excellent acoustics and high ceilings to enhance the sound of practices.
There are three classrooms for art students with ample space to accommodate different art mediums including a kiln and a pottery room.
The unique drama classrooms and dressing rooms have easy access to backstage and include a spacious storage area for props.
There is a Macintosh computer lab for journalism students to work on school publications. The expansive lobby is ideal for receptions and includes a coat check room and a fully equipped concession stand.
The building has already hosted back to school parent and athletic meetings, and more recently an all-school Mass of the Holy Spirit on Aug. 19. As parents and guests entered the facility, they commented how impressed they were with the beautiful structure.
Following Mass, Bishop Joseph Latino blessed the building and classroom areas. The Mass was also concelebrated by retired Bishop William Houck and Jackson area priests, as well as parents, Advisory Council members and friends of St. Joseph School. Lunch was provided in the large lobby by the St. Joseph Parent Association.
