Faith Formation Day set for Sept. 19
JACKSON — The annual Faith Formation Day, sponsored by the diocesan Office of Faith Formation, is set for Saturday, Sept. 19, at Madison St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Registration will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
Dr. Marianne Evans Mount, president and founder of Catholic Distance University, will speak on the theme “The Catechist and the Catechetical Leader: Models for Life Long Learning,” from 9:45 - 10:30 a.m.
She has her doctorate in human development from Virgi
nia Polytechnic Institute and State University with emphasis on The Lived Experience of Adult Faith Formation in an Online Learning Community.
Break-out sessions will be held from 10:45 a.m. - noon and from 1:45 - 2:30 p.m. Topics and presenters are:
— “Catechesis of the Good Shepherd” by Hope Johnson, a member of Jackson St. Peter the Apostle Parish.
— “Adolescent Catechesis: The Heart of Youth Ministry” by Ken Richard, RCL Benziger.
— “Prayer: An Essential Ingredient for Life” by Nancy Campeaux, a consultant, of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, Child Protection Office and William Sadlier Publishing Company.
— “RCIA: Total Parish Ministry” by Dr. Evelyn Thibeaux, Loyola University, New Orleans, La.
— “Whole Community Catechesis” will be presented by members of Jackson Holy Family Parish’s Faith Formation Team: Sister Eilene Hauswald, Gladys Russell, Ollie Bailey, Terrilyn Collins and Phyllis Bowens.
— “Music: Effective Use in Classroom Catechesis” by Amy Topik, a member of Flowood St Paul Parish.
— “Lights, Camera, Action! Motivating Ideas for Directors of Religious Education” by members of Madison St. Francis of Assisi Parish: Mary Catherine George, Theresa Prejean, and Abbey Schuhmann.
— “Innovative Ways to Keep the Intermediate Aged Child engaged in Religious Education” by Aline Harbison, theology teacher at Archbishop Chapelle High School in Metairie, La; Our Sunday Visitor Curriculum Division.
Cost per participant is $30 for one-five catechists or $25 for six or more catechists and includes lunch.
