Rwanda native speaks this weekend
NATCHEZ — Immaculee Ilibagiza, a Rwanda native who survived the 1994 Rwanda genocide by spending 91 days with seven other women in the tiny bathroom of a local pastor’s house, will speak in three locations in the Diocese of Jackson this weekend.
She will be a guest speaker at “Evangelization 2009” at St. Mary Basilica Friday and Saturday, Jan. 16-17,. (see page 2).
Ilibagiza will also speak at St. Alphonsus Parish’s celebration of its 14 years of Eucharistic Adoration Sunday, Jan. 18, after the 10:30 a.m. Mass. A love offering will be taken. For information call 601-684-5648. Lunch will follow in Liguori Hall.
Ilibagiza, author of “Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust” released in March 2006, wrote in her book, “He (God) left me to tell my story to others and show as many people as possible the healing power of his love and forgiveness.” Nearly one million ethnic Tutsis were murdered during the country’s revolution.
Ilibagiza has said prayer became her armor and “I wrapped it tightly around my heart.”
Mission Pike County will also sponsor Ilibagiza Sunday, Jan. 18, at Southwest Mississippi Community College Fine Arts Auditorium in Summit from 2 - 3 p.m.
Pike County Praise and Worship Choir will sing from 1:30 - 2 p.m.
