Jack Welsch dies in Jackson
JACKSON – John A. “Jack” Welsch, Jr., 78, died Monday, Nov. 24, at St. Dominic’s Hospital.
He was a graduate of Georgetown University and the University of Mississippi School of Law. After he retired from Brunini, Grantham, Grower and Hewes, he served as in-house counsel for the Catholic Diocese of Jackson until his death.
Welsch had served as president of the Mississippi Oil and Gas Lawyers Association and of Mississippians for Educational Broadcasting. He was a member of the St. Dominic Hospital Auxiliary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Blanche Brunini Welsch, and his daughter, Gretchen Pumphrey.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Cragwall Welsch; daughters, Hilda Sallack and husband, Bill, and Blanche Woolwine and husband, Richie; sons, John A. Welsch III and wife, Eathel; Gilland Welsch and girlfriend, Mary Clements; Jasper Welsch and wife, Patricia; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday, Nov. 28, at the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle. Burial followed in Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland.
