Celebrations honor Our Lady of Guadalupe
JACKSON — The saga of the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe to the Indian Juan Diego in 1531 in Mexico will be celebrated in several Hispanic communities in the Diocese of Jackson this year around her feast day, Dec. 12.
Batesville St. Mary
Saturday, Dec. 13, Mass in Spanish at 7:30 a.m. Music will begin at 7 a.m.
Booneville St. Francis
A novena/rosary will be prayed Dec. 4-12 at 6 p.m. A celebration will be held Friday, Dec. 12, after the rosary.
Canton Sacred Heart
The rosaries for Guadalupe will be prayed nightly at 7 p.m. at various homes beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Friday, Dec. 12, mañanitas at 6 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church.
Sunday, Dec. 14, procession beginning at 12:30 p.m at the Westside Trailer Park and ending at the Sacred Heart Church. Mass will follow.
Corinth St. James
Saturday, Dec. 13, re-enactment of the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe following the 6:30 p.m. Mass in Spanish.
A novena/rosary was to begin Wednesday. Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. and will continue until Thursday, Dec. 11, in the church followed by a celebration.
Eupora St. John Neumann
Novena to the Virgin of Guadalupe Dec. 4-12 at 6 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 12, Mass at 6 p.m. followed by a reception.
Greenville St. Joseph School
Greenville St. Joseph Spanish classes will host a Mass and themed breakfast for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Friday, Dec. 12. The 7:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated in the Father Thomas Lalor Chapel at the high school and will be celebrated by Father Richard Somers, pastor of St. Joseph Parish. All are welcomed by Mrs. Kathy Muir, and her students.
Hazlehurst St. Martin
Friday, Dec. 12, Mass at 6:30 p.m.
Jackson St. Peter
Activities organized by Hispanic members of St. Peter Parish include a football tournament that will be held at St. Therese Parish on Sundays, Dec. 7 and 14.
Thursday, Dec. 11, mañanitas at 11:30 p.m. at St. Peter Cathedral.
Sunday, Dec. 14, a play about the apparition of the Virgin to Juan Diego will be held at Pearl St. Jude Parish.
A procession, escorted by members of the Knights of Columbus in a motorcade, will leave from St. Jude Parish and head to the State Capitol. Hispanics will walk/run carrying a torch following a decorated truck carrying the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. At 12:30 p.m. the procession will move toward Smith Park for the rosary and procession. Mass will follow at 2 p.m.
The reception will be held at St. Therese Parish.

Southaven Christ the King
Friday, Dec. 12, mañanitas at 5 a.m.
Mass at 7 p.m. with mariachis followed by a dinner.
Tupelo St. James
A novena/rosary was to begin Thursday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Catholic Life Center and will continue until Friday, Dec. 12. The Guada- lupe dancers will perform after each rosary.
Friday, Dec. 12, Mass at 7:30 p.m.
On Sunday, Dec. 14, activities will begin at 5 a.m. with a play about the apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe followed by mañanitas, a rosary, and breakfast.
A procession to the church will start at 1:30 p.m. at the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) parking lot. Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. followed by a reception in the Catholic Life Center with music, dance, and a mariachi.
Vicksburg St. Michael
Sunday, Dec. 14, beginning at 1 p.m. with a procession and rosary. Mass at 2 p.m. follow by a social.
Parishioners are raffling a 19-inch TV to raise funds.
