A Ministry of Fund-Raising
“For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven …” (Eccl. 3:1) – including annual financial audit reports. Even the bishop of a diocese cannot escape them.
A recent audit came across my desk which made me pause. This one was different. In this depressed economy, here was a refreshing report by the Catholic Foundation. It touted a record distributable income of $400,000 for its beneficiaries.
Those blessed parishes, schools and diocesan programs can count on more of the same every year. One can almost feel their joy and relief. The report also showed an additional $65,000 will be made available for allocation in June 2009 to fill grant requests.
Before the season to harvest and share, there is a time to plant and nourish. This number crunching by auditors comes during the Catholic Foundation’s 2009 membership drive. I support this ministry with my annual dues. I encourage those who can to become a $25 Friend member. Call George Roman for more information (601-960-8477).
The Catholic Foundation is a ministry of providing the financial resources needed to accomplish the ministry of the Gospel … both ministries are perpetual and deserve our serious stewardship.
