Series offers marriage enrichment
JACKSON — A four-part marriage enrichment series for married couples in the Diocese of Jackson will be offered at St. Richard Parish on Mondays, Oct. 13, 20 and Nov. 3 and 10, from 6:30 - 8 p.m.
This series is based on the work of renowned couples’ psychologist John Gottman and will be presented by therapists from Catholic Charities, who trained at the Gottman Institute in Seattle, Wash.
The classes will teach couples how to protect their marriages from conflict and how to insure positive feelings and emotional connection. Topics to be addressed are:
Session I — Oct. 13: How to create and sustain a foundation of friendship in your marriage.
Session II — Oct. 20: How to maintain positive feelings and prevent emotional disengagement.
Session III — Nov. 3: How to regulate conflict in your marriage
Session IV — Nov. 10: How to create shared meaning.
Couples need to attend together as the evenings will consist of presentations, discussions and exercises. Cost per session is $25. For information or to register call Pam McFarland, 601-326-3719.
Louise Dillon, director of the diocesan Office of Family Ministry, said the enrichment series is part of the U.S. bishops multi-year National Pastoral Initiative for Marriage which includes a website www.foryourmarriage.org.
