Conference offers co-workers training at two sites
BATESVILLE/MADISON — The diocesan Office of Faith Formation will offer a conference based on the document “Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord” at Madison St. Francis of Assisi Parish on Saturday, Sept. 20 and at Batesville St. Mary Parish on Sunday, Sept. 21.
Edward Hahnenberg, associate professor of theology at Xavier University, Cincinnati, where he teaches courses in theological method, ecclesiology, liturgy, and contemporary Catholicism, will be the keynote speaker.
He served as consultant to the U.S. Bishops’ Subcommittee on Lay Ministry in its preparation of the document, “Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord,” a resource for guiding the development of lay ecclesial ministry.
Hahnnenberg is the author of two books — “Ministries: A Relational Approach” and “A Consice Guide to the Documents of Vatican II” and several articles in academic and pastoral journals.
Nine breakout sessions are scheduled:
— Leading Prayer: an Art and Skill to be presented by Kathy Brown, director of formation for ministry at Washington Theological Union.
— Companions on the Journey by David Orr, co-author with Kathy Brown of “Companions on the Journey” and various books on spirituality.
— National Standards — WHY? by Cecelia Bennett, associate director for administrative services at Loyola Institute for Ministry, Loyola University, New Orleans.
— Faith Formation as the DRE by Sister Margaret Kuntz, director for Christian formation at the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee.
— RCIA: Total Parish Ministry by Mary Flessner, Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) director of the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle in Jackson. — Mentoring as Journeyers by Jay Gilchrist, coordinator for Glenmary Coworker Ministries.
— Catechists — Excite, Exhilarate, Explore by Nancy Campeaux, consultant of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, Child Protection Office, and William Sadlier Publishing Company.
— How to Involve the Worshiping Community in “Good Liturgy,” by Louis Canter, associate director of the Office of Worship of the Archdiocese of Detroit.
— Adolescent Catechesis: The Heart of Youth Ministry by Cathy Cook, associate superintendent of the Catholic Diocese of Jackson.
In Madison the conference will be from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Lunch will be served.
In Batesville the conference will run from 1 - 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
Cost is $30 per person.
