`Grillin’ for Life’ raises $7,000 for pro-life causes VIEW GALLERY (use keyboard arrow keys to navigate)
JACKSON — The fourth annual “Grillin’ for Life” barbecue cook-off, held Friday-Saturday, Aug. 1-2, will be able to distribute $7,000 to pro-life organizations this year, according to Ben Mokry, Council 8285 of the Knights of Columbus at St. Therese Parish.
Mokry said $6,400 was distributed last year. In all, over $21,000 has been ditributed to pro-life organizations since Grillin’ began.
This year there were 27 teams or contestants in the competition.The winning team was UBON’s All Professionals, a local team.
Team member Leslie Scott, told Gerry Clark, a barbecue cook-off organizer, the contest was great, even if they had not won the event.
Scott said they all learned a lot about the Knights of Columbus too.
Contestants paid entry fees for the competion and the winners were awarded cash prizes
Held on the Madison St. Joseph School campus, 15 vendors set up shop and sold arts and crafts. Several bands performed.
