Vigil honors survivors of sexual assault JACKSON – In addition to the Child Abuse Awareness Month mentioned in the story above, April has also been designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month — a time to bring attention to the pervasive and devastating crimes of sexual violence that affect countless numbers of women, men, and children every day.
The Catholic Charities Rape Crisis Center in Jackson assists victims of sexual assault and their families.
The center is sponsoring a Candlelight Vigil on Friday, April 18, at 6 p.m. at Galloway United Methodist Church. Organizers say the vigil is designed to honor survivors of sexual assault. A panel of local experts will be on hand to discuss assisting survivors of sexual assault.
The local Catholic Charities Rape Crisis Center will host activities throughout April to bring awareness to this issue. The national theme is “Preventing Sexual Violence: In Our Workplaces.” Activities provide an opportunity for members of the community to educate themselves and become more involved.
If you or someone you know needs assistance, the 24-hour Rape Crisis Center crisis line is available at 601- 982-RAPE (7273) or you can contact the Rape Crisis Center at 601-948-4495 during business hours.
