‘Grand Theft Jesus’ released next week JACKSON – Robert McElvaine’s new book, “Grand Theft Jesus: The Hijacking of Religion in America,” will be published by Crown publishers March 25. McElvaine will give a talk and sign copies at Lemuria bookstore beginning at 5 p.m. that day.
McElvaine is Elizabeth Chisholm Professor of Arts and Letters and chair of the Department of History at Millsaps College in Jackson and a member of Holy Savior Parish in Clinton.
Publishers Weekly says, “This no-holds-barred satirical polemic eviscerates the religious right.” And although the book will be very controversial, the review said, it doesn’t attack Catholics to speak of (aside from offering a revised Creed as an appendix).
