Father James Carroll dies in Tennessee
       BARTLETT, Tenn. — Father James Carroll, 82, died Sunday, Feb. 17. A native of County Meath, Ireland, Father Carroll served in Mississippi for 51 years.
       Ordained a priest in 1949 for the then Diocese of Natchez, he served in Natchez, Meridian, Vicksburg, Greenville, Batesville, Grenada and Shelby. He served at St. Mary Parish in Shelby from 1986 until his retirement in 2000.
       After retiring, Father Carroll moved to Cordoba, Tenn., and continued to assist part-time in various parishes in Mississippi until his health began to fail in recent months. At the time of his death he was a resident of Ave Maria Assisted Living in Bartlett.
       A funeral Mass was to be celebrated by Bishop Joseph Latino Thursday, Feb. 21, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Cordova. Burial will take place in County Meath, Ireland.
       Father Carroll is survived by his sister Crissie Gogarty of County Meath and several nephews and nieces.
