Charities needs sponsors for Christmas
By Fabvienen Taylor
JACKSON — Each year at Christmas time Catholic Charities through sponsorships from individuals and corporations statewide, provides blessings to numerous families in need by collecting then donating gifts through the Hope Haven Home Based Program’s Christmas Outreach.
This year’s Christmas Outreach efforts will assist more than 25 families (over 100 children) in need by providing them with toys, clothing, and general gifts. Monetary donations, in lieu of adopting a family, are also accepted and can be made directly to Catholic Charities in Jackson.
If you or your family would like to participate in Catholic Charities Hope Haven Home Based Program’s Christmas Outreach it’s not too late! There are still families in need. Your generosity in choosing to adopt one of these families will be a blessing to many.
To participate, contact Carol Warfield or Mallie Simmons of Catholic Charities at 601-326-3732. The deadline for dropping off gifts for families is Monday, Dec. 17.
Hope Haven provides home-based counseling and service coordination to families in crisis with children ages 3-18 located in the Hinds, Madison, and Rankin county areas.  Support is provided in both the school and community environments. Services are available to families whose children have a mental health diagnosis or would be eligible upon evaluation by a psychiatrist or psychologist.
Counseling services are designed to assist the family in resolving the crisis and in keeping the youth at home.  Services are typically provided for three to six months.
For more information, contact: Carol Warfield, program director, at 601-948-4493.
The Unaccompanied Refugee Minors Program at Catholic Charities will host its annual Emancipation / Christmas celebration on Friday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral, 305 East Capitol Street in Jackson.
Both Sudanese and Haitian Refugee Minors will participate. For more information contact 501-6040.
