Jackson St. Richard first grades scavenge for angels VIEW GALLERY (use arrow keys to navigate)
JACKSON — In conjunction with the “Between God and Man: Angels in Italian Art” exhibit (until Dec. 30), the Mississippi Museum of Art offers educational programs for children and adults.
On Thursday, Nov. 8, three classes each of the first and second grades at St. Richard Elementary School went on a field trip to the museum where they ate lunch outside and then participated in an age-appropriate scavenger hunt organized by the museum staff.
The students then returned to school and discussed the scavenger hunt and created their own angel sculptures.
The third and fourth grades were scheduled to tour the exhibit on Tuesday, Nov. 13, and fifth and sixth grades on Thursday, Nov. 29.
The exhibition is about the evolution of an icon — the angel. It is comprised of more than 100 works of art from various mediums, but mainly paintings, from ancient times to modern.
Admission for adults is $12 and there are special rates for seniors and students.
For museum members admission is free.
