Bishop Latino tells 2007 graduates By Fabvienen Taylor
VICKSBURG — Katherine McKnight, 18, liked all of her classes at St. Aloysius High School but “kind of dreaded English. I’m really not an English person.” The future biological sciences major at Mississippi State University (MSU) is undecided about what career path she will take. “I just really enjoyed attending St. Al. I’ll miss it, especially the small classes where we really got to know each other well.”
Teaching might be in Daniel Berryhill’s future, according to the prospective history major. “I was really influenced about teaching by my physics teacher, Catherine Jenkins, and my football coach, Jimmy Salmon, who taught history,” said Berryhill, 17, who also plans to attend MSU. “I haven’t decided yet. I’m in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) so it really depends on where that takes me.”
McKnight and Berryhill received their high school diplomas on Saturday, May 26, from St. Aloysius High School in the Vicksburg Convention Center.
Their class numbered 37 with about half of the class earning 4.0 averages during their high school careers and achieving $1.1 million in scholarships. Emily Beatrice Clarke and Sarah Elizabeth Kerut were co-valedictorians and Taylor Elizabeth Thomas was salutatorian. (See related story pages 8,9.)
“You have accomplished great things here at St. Al’s,” said Bishop Joseph Latino, who presented the diplomas. “I simply suggest that as you go on to seek your place in life. Always keep pride in your school and continue on to be successful adults.”
