Knights’ raffle funds seminarian education
JACKSON/BILOXI — Knights of Columbus Councils in Mississippi conscious of the escalating cost of educating a man for the priesthood are raffling a 2007 model vehicle to raise funds to benefit seminarian education in the dioceses of Jackson and Biloxi.
This raffle replaces the motorcycle raffle that has been held very successfully for the last two years. Deacon Larry Campbell of Southaven is coordinating the raffle for the Diocese of Jackson.
Deacon Campbell said this raffle has been approved by State Deputy, Brother Larry Tabor, and has the blessings of both Bishop Thomas Rodi and Bishop Joseph Latino.
The raffle drawing will be held at the 2007 state convention next month in Biloxi. The drawing will take place at the Saturday evening banquet April 28.
The grand prize winner will have a choice of one of the following new 2007 vehicles: Mercury Grand Marquis, Ford Mustang, Ford Escape, Ford F-150 or a Ford Ranger.
Deacon Campbell said he will accompany the winner to Gray-Daniels Ford in Brandon for the selection of the vehicle.
“The vehicle selected may be purchased from inventory or ordered by the dealership,” he said.
“The winner will be responsible for all taxes, licensing, and fees. How about that for a deal?”
“But, that’s not all!” he added. There will also be three consolation prizes: a major home appliance, a Coby Portable Widescreen DVD player, and a basket of cheer.
Deacon Campbell said all profits earned in each of the two dioceses will go to seminarian education for those dioceses.
“This is both an ambitious and major endeavor and will require a lot of hard work promotion, time selling, and effort,” he said.
Deacon Campbell wishes to emphasize this raffle is not intended to interfere, in any way, with any seminarian education project that a council or assembly is currently working on or planning for the future. They are asking people not to let up on any effort.
He said this raffle is meant to supplement other programs already in place or being planned. “It is hoped that each diocese will earn a minimum of $20,000 in addition to other programs.”
Cost of tickets is as follows: one ticket, $2; three tickets, $5; six tickets, $10; 10 tickets, $15; 14 tickets, $20, and 20 tickets, $25.
