Day of Reflection set in Canton
JACKSON – The 2007 Black Catholic Ministry Day of Reflection will have an underlying theme of social justice and will provide insight into the Black Catholic Congress X, according to Will Jemison, director of the diocesan Office of Black Catholic Ministry.
The event is set for Friday and Saturday, April 13-14, at Canton Holy Child Jesus Parish.
The afternoon session on Saturday will be devoted to Sister Thea Bowman. This year marks the 70th anniversary of Sister Bowman’s birth in Mississippi.
Speakers for both days are: Bishop Joseph Latino, Regena Thomas, first African-American secretary of state, New Jersey; Father Jeremy Tobin, a Norbertine priest who lives at St. Moses the Black Priory in Raymond; Father Ricardo Phipps, pastor of Jackson Christ the King and St. Mary parishes; and Sister Deborah Hughes, superintendent of Catholic schools.
Cost of registration is $5 and includes lunch, a souvenir Day of Reflection T-shirt and a bag.
The event will conclude with a report by a Sister of Perpetual Adoration on the status of Sister Bowman’s canonization. Registration is available online at www.blackcatholicministry.com . T-shirts will not be guaranteed with on-site registration. Jemison is asking parishioners to encourage family and friends to “join you for this joyous and memorable occcasion.”
