Spring Hill course introduces Canon Law
JACKSON — The Spring Hill College spring course will be an introduction to Canon Law with particular emphasis on the 1983 Code of Canon Law.
Father Kevin Slattery, a priest of the Diocese of Jackson and judicial vicar of the Jackson Tribunal Office, will present an overview of the code and touch on other forms of legislation within the Catholic Church. The emphasis will be on becoming familiar with the code and how to apply it in practical ways such as marriage, liturgy, property, and structures, planners said.
The course will be taught on six Saturdays, March 3, 17, 31, April 14, 28, and May 5, at Madison St. Joseph High School from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Father Slattery worked as a defender of the bond for the Jackson Tribunal from June 1989 through January 2001 when he was appointed a tribunal judge.
He attended St. Paul University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, where he earned his JCL in May 2000.
Each Spring Hill course is open to the general public. An individual may take any course or series of courses without application to the master program.
All persons participating in the Spring Hill College Extension Program pay a reduced cost of $242 per credit hour. First-time students have a one-time $25 application fee payable to Spring Hill College in Mobile.
Scholarship assistance for tuition may be available. For information call Alice Hughes, diocesan director of the Office of Faith Formation, 601-960-8473.
