WHAT? Events, features announcements, recaps, factual reports or letters to the editor (250 words or less).
WHEN? Anytime you have an upcoming event that needs publicity, when you have a program under way that takes a unique approach to an “ordinary” occurrence, when someone does something newsworthy, when a change is made, when your news is news to other readers.
WHERE? In your parish, school, or organization, in your town community, deanery.
HOW? It’s easy. Just follow the steps listed here.
- 1. Think ahead. If you need our help in covering something, let us know well in advance. If we can’t make it, we’ll advise you on how to handle coverage locally.
- 2. Keep it concise. Tell us What happened, Who did it, When, Where, and Why. Think about other readers and what will appeal to them. Avoid long lists of names.
- 3. Observe deadlines. Send information two weeks before or within one week after the event.
- 4. Don’t be disappointed. If your copy is edited (rewritten, changed, shortened, or rearranged), don’t be upset. Remember that’s our job.
